Lighting Comparison - Cutting to the Chase for Residential Light Replacements

The lighting comparison charts below compare the most common types and power ratings of
residential lighting technologies: incandescents, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and light emitting
diodes (LEDs). Note that halogens are not listed explicitly since they are rated identically to
incandescents for energy use but provide 25-30% higher light output or lumens per watt (efficacy).

*    The following format is used  for Bulb Name: The first number is the actual wattage of the
replacement bulb, and the second number is the incandescent equivalent of wattage. So for
example, a CFL-14-60 is a 14 Watt compact fluorescent (CFL) bulb with a light output that is
equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent bulb (Incan).
* * Equivalent Wattages and Light Outputs
Incandescent Watts CFL Watts LED Watts Light Output Lumens
40 8 - 12 4 - 5 450
60 13 - 18 6 - 8 300 - 900
75 - 100 18 - 22 9 - 13 1100 - 1300
100.00 23 - 30 16 - 20 1600 - 1800
150.00 30 - 55 25 - 28 2600 - 2800
